STEP-BY-STEP INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO CLEAN YOUR GOLF BALLS

We all know that golf enthusiasts pick their golf club as their most prized possession. We obsess about wiping down the handles and polishing the driver heads on a regular basis, thus leaving the golf balls as pretty much of an afterthought. But what’s the use of a shiny, well-maintained golf club it’s connecting with a dirty golf ball?

There are a number of reasons why you should clean your golf balls. First is that it improves contact between the driver head and the golf ball itself. Secondly, it improves the golf ball’s trajectory and distance. Last but not the least is that dirty golf balls can accelerate the wear and tear on your golf club’s precious driver head.

Clean golf balls fly truer and faster than a dirty, gunked up one. When a golf ball is dirty, the dimples are likely to be covered with dirt, mud, and debris that can affect its aerodynamics. This means that your in-game performance is gonna suffer and it can ruin your whole golfing experience altogether. This step-by-step instruction will teach you how to clean your golf balls and ensure optimum golf ball performance with each swing.

Step 1: Cleaning light dirt on golf balls

Surprisingly, golf balls are dishwasher-safe and many players chuck their golf balls inside the dishwasher to give it a quick clean. The hot water combined with the dishwashing detergent is great at removing light dirt on the surface of the golf balls. Here’s how you do it.

  • Load up your golf balls on the dishwasher’s utensil compartment.
  • Add enough dishwasher detergent just like you would when running a normal cycle.
  • Use the medium cycle to give your golf balls a thorough clean.
  • Remove the golf balls from the utensil compartment and wipe them off with an old towel.

Of course, this method only works for golf balls that have minimal debris on the dimples. If your golf balls are moderately dirty, then you will need to use a different method.

Step 2: Cleaning moderate dirt on golf balls

If your golf balls are moderately dirty, then you will need to soak them to remove any stuck dirt, grass, or mud. This is best done with batches of golf balls so if you have plenty of golf balls to clean, then this method will work pretty well.

  • Grab a bucket that’s large enough to accommodate your golf balls. Fill it up halfway with warm water.
  • Add 1 cup of vinegar to the bucket (you can also use bleach or ammonia as alternatives).
  • Let the golf balls soak in the solution for around 20-30 minutes.
  • Remove the water from the bucket and use a pressure washer to clean the golf balls. You’ll find that the vinegar has dissolved most of the dirt on the surface and make the golf balls easier to clean.
  • Take out the golf balls and dry them off with an old towel before placing them under the sun.

Step 3: Cleaning heavy dirt on golf balls

It’s not uncommon for golf balls to be caked in with dirt and mud, especially if you play in rainy conditions. The end result is sticky, slimy golf balls that can severely affect your performance. With a bit of elbow grease, you can clean even the dirtiest of golf balls and ensure clean contact with your golf club’s driver head.

  • Similar to step 2, soak the golf balls in a bucket filled with a warm water/vinegar solution. This time, leave the golf balls to soak for one hour to dissolve stubborn dirt and mud even further.
  • Make a paste using baking soda and water. This paste rubs into the dimples of the golf balls and removes any caked on dirt or mud. Use a hard-bristled brush to agitate the dirt and remove them.
  • Use a pressure washer to remove any remaining vestiges of dirt on the surface of the golf balls.
  • Use an old towel to dry the golf balls clean before placing them under the sun.

Step 4; Removing pen marks on golf balls

When you buy used golf balls, you’ll notice that they are marked with paint or felt-tip markers. Removing them is easy as rinsing the golf ball under running water and using an acetone-based nail remover.

  • Rinse the golf balls to remove dirt and debris. Wipe dry with a towel afterwards before using acetone.
  • Dab acetone on a piece of cotton and wipe off until the pen marks disappear. You can also use a paint thinner to remove paint on the surface of the golf balls.
  • Use dishwashing soap to clean the golf balls before drying them with a towel.

By following these steps, your golf balls will remain clean as a whistle. Don’t let dirty golf balls ruin your golfing experience so make sure to clean them on a regular basis. If you’re interested in custom printed golf balls in Perth, contact us at Bladon WA today.
